Attack on Vokshi in Parliament, IDC-CDI: Taulant Balla's statement

IDC-CDI and the CDI Women's Forum (WCDI) have condemned the sexist statement made against DP MP Albana Vokshi during the plenary session in the Parliament.

In the official reaction, international organizations harshly criticize the statement of the chairman of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, who referred to Vokshi with the number "0900", which constitutes an insult and violation of the dignity of a woman in public office.

IDC-CDI and WCDI emphasize that sexist language and attempts to humiliate women in politics are unacceptable and call on political forces in Albania to condemn this behavior and guarantee respect in parliamentary debate.

IDC-CDI and WCDI (CDI Women's Forum) condemn sexist attack in the Albanian Parliament

IDC-CDI and the Women's Organization of IDC-CDI (WCDI) strongly condemn the unacceptable sexist insult directed at Albana Vokshi by the leader of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, during the last plenary session of the Albanian Parliament. The degrading implication that referred to her number as “0900”, a clear allusion to a sex hotline, constitutes a blatant act of disrespect and an attack on the dignity of a woman serving in public office.

Such behavior is incompatible with the values ​​of democratic representation and undermines the integrity of parliamentary institutions. Sexist intimidation, humiliation and attempts to silence women through abusive language must be rejected unequivocally.

We stand in full solidarity with Albana Vokshi and call on all political forces in Albania, especially those holding positions of responsibility within the governing majority, to condemn this behavior and ensure that public debate is conducted with the respect that democratic institutions require.

Sexism, harassment and personal degradation cannot be tolerated in political life. Parliaments must lead by example in upholding equality, dignity and respect for women.
