A 43-year-old Swiss man has been arrested after a shooting at a techno rave party in the Swiss city of Aarau, where a 22-year-old Italian woman was killed and five other people were injured.

The incident took place on Sunday at the Schachen horse racing track, where a party was being held, with around 3,500 people expected to attend. Police were called to the shooting at around 2:30 a.m. 22-year-old Maria Spinelli died at the scene, while four young men, aged 24 to 27, were taken to hospital with minor to serious injuries. 

Following the attack, Swiss police launched a massive manhunt that lasted nearly 24 hours. The suspect was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, ending an intensive search in the Aarau area. Aargau cantonal police confirmed the arrest and said investigations into the full circumstances of the incident were still ongoing.

Authorities are continuing to investigate how the clash started, what motivated the attack and whether the perpetrator had any connection to the victims or event attendees. According to police, at this stage it is believed that the 43-year-old acted alone.
