Over 1,660 products at lower prices from Monday

Starting Monday, August 31, the National Price Reduction Initiative will launch, a program that includes over 1,660 daily consumer products and aims for an average price reduction of around 7%.
The initiative aims to help families facing the high cost of living and includes basic foods, household products, school supplies, supermarket brand products and meat.
So far, around 900 products from well-known brands have been included in the scheme. The average reduction is around 7%, but for specific products it ranges from 5% to 30%.
For more than 450 school supplies, the average reduction is around 10%. Around 250 products from supermarket own brands will cost an average of 7% less, while for around 60 meat products, both domestic and imported, the average reduction reaches 7.2%.
The initiative has so far included over 90 suppliers, several supermarket chains and three toy and school supply chains. The list is expected to expand.
The program is conceived as a kind of “national social agreement” between the government, suppliers and retail chains.
The reduction of about 7% is not necessarily expected to be the final reduction.
Citizens will not need to search with a magnifying glass to see which products are part of the initiative. They will be clearly visible on shelves with special labels, while information about participating businesses, products and the percentage of the reduction will also be published on a digital platform.
In parallel, market controls will continue, especially to verify whether the reductions are real.
The full list of products will be published from Monday and it will also be calculated how much money an average family can save from this initiative.
This initiative, which launches tomorrow, is one of the latest measures taken to help consumers by the Greek government.
