37-year-old pregnant woman lost her life, sister: I want justice, they delayed us for over 3 hours in Pogradec

A serious event has shaken Pogradec, where a 37-year-old pregnant woman, Marjana Karolina Bunaj, lost her life while being transported to Tirana for specialized medical assistance.

Family members raise questions about how the situation was managed at the Pogradec maternity hospital and demand a full explanation of the circumstances.

The deceased's sister, Albina Mekolli, who accompanied Marjana throughout her stay in the maternity ward, tearfully recounted to journalist Osman Stafa the difficult moments that preceded her loss.

According to her, it all started around noon, when the 37-year-old called her saying she had severe abdominal pain.

"At 12 o'clock she called me and said: Come here because I have severe stomach pains. I went very quickly because we are close. I took her to the maternity ward because she was pregnant. The doctor on duty examined her, did an ultrasound and said that she had internal bleeding," Albina confessed.

After determining the serious condition, the family was informed that the 37-year-old woman had to be transported to Tirana. According to the sister, during this time the possibility of transport by helicopter was also discussed, but this did not materialize.

"I heard they were talking about the helicopter, but they said it couldn't come because it was night," she said.

Further, according to her testimony, Marjana was taken to intensive care, while family members claim that there were delays before the ambulance left for Tirana.

"The doctor spoke to someone and the resuscitation doctors came, they sent him there and there were delays. They sent him by ambulance after 4 am. In Pogradec, no surgical intervention was performed. In three hours, they put him on a ventilator for serums and blood," Albina declared.

She believes that a quicker intervention or transport could have changed her sister's fate.

"If we had left a little earlier, at least my sister would have been saved, because maybe the child wouldn't have survived. Maybe if we had arrived in Tirana earlier, she would have survived," she said.

The family has demanded a full investigation to determine whether the delays contributed to the deterioration of the 37-year-old's condition and the loss of her life.

"I demand justice, that the truth be revealed, whether he died from negligence or not. I believe that if there had been more speed, he would be among us today," said Marjana's sister Karolina Bunajt.

According to family members, the 37-year-old's husband had left for the United States just three days before the incident, with the aim of achieving family reunification. The child Marjana was expecting was the couple's first.
