'TIME' selects Mira Murati among 100 figures shaping the future of AI

Mira Murati has been selected by the prestigious American magazine TIME in the "TIME100 AI 2026" list, which lists 100 personalities who are playing an important role in the development of artificial intelligence at a global level.

Murati, who previously served as CTO at OpenAI, is now co-founder and CEO of Thinking Machines Lab. She is also featured on the global cover of this issue, joining a group of some of the tech industry's most recognizable names, including Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Ilya Sutskever.

TIME describes the 2026 list as a selection of leaders, innovators and researchers who are influencing how AI will be developed and used in the future.

In a special profile on Murat, the magazine focuses on her work at Thinking Machines Lab and the goal of creating more flexible and user-friendly artificial intelligence systems.

The company was founded by Murat in 2025 and, according to TIME, has secured about $2 billion in seed funding. In parallel, Thinking Machines Lab has entered into an agreement with Nvidia to supply advanced chips, which will be used in the development of its AI technologies.

TIME's list this year includes figures from major technology companies, universities and research centers, politics, business, and the creative industries. Among them are executives and researchers affiliated with companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as other names who have influenced the development of the sector.

According to TIME editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs, artificial intelligence has now transformed from an experimental technology into an everyday element of the way people work, get informed, and communicate.

For Murat, this is another important achievement in her career. After leaving OpenAI in 2024, she decided to build a new company in the field of AI, thus returning to one of the most important centers of the global competition for artificial intelligence technologies.
