Bushati: The protest has given the message, but Rama did not leave power

Analyst Andi Bushati has revealed another perspective on the protests against Edi Rama's government.

Invited to "Now", Bushati said that the protests have already managed to convey their main message that there is deep dissatisfaction with the current government.

 According to him, the problem lies in the fact that protest alone cannot force a government to leave if democratic mechanisms do not function properly.

"Even a week of protest and the massiveness that we have seen together with the people who supported it would be enough to understand that there is extreme dissatisfaction in this country."

Regardless of the number of days, even if the protest were to end today, it has achieved its goal. So, the protest has shown us that with the Rama government in particular and with this political class in general, people are exhausted.

"Even if they came out in September, even if they were few, even if they became as many as they were, I don't believe we will have a bigger message than what has been given ," Bushati said.

Asked whether the objectives set by the protests could lead to Rama's departure, Bushati argues that the prime minister's departure no longer depends on the citizens or the number of days of protest. He points out that in many countries the government does not resign willingly even if 2 million Albanians come out.

"It no longer depends on the protest, it depends on the one to whom the demands are addressed. Because what happens in democratic countries? No one gives up power willingly, willingly.

In democratic countries, when people and leaders see that people are unhappy with them, they leave, because otherwise they wait for elections and drag themselves and their political forces into a rut.

"In this country where elections have been suppressed, even if 2 million Albanians take to the streets, the government does not have to resign. So the success of the protest does not depend on how the government reacts, because it is known how the government will react: it will continue to steal and will continue, in the end, to hide the thefts, to steal votes ," the analyst said.
