Zhupa: Honoring the dictator in Finiq unacceptable, Vlora District Council

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has reacted sharply after a public activity held in Finiq, where the rhetoric of praising and honoring dictator Enver Hoxha was revived, in the presence of the deputy chairman of the Vlora District Council, Harallamb Pandeqi.

Zhupa has called any attempt to rehabilitate the dictator's figure unacceptable, emphasizing that the communist regime took the lives and freedom of thousands of Albanians, persecuted entire families, and imprisoned and exiled political opponents.

The DP MP demands that public institutions clearly distance themselves from any glorification of the dictatorship, underlining that the memory of the fallen and the National Liberation War cannot be used as an excuse to honor Enver Hoxha.

Zhupa's reaction:

Zhupa: Honoring the dictator in Finiq unacceptable, Vlora District Council

What happened today in Finiq is unacceptable, where at a public event the rhetoric of praising and honoring the dictator Enver Hoxha was revived, in the presence of the vice president of the Vlora District Council, Harallamb Pandeqi, who represented the institution.

The figure of Enver Hoxha cannot and should not be rehabilitated or honored! The regime he built took the lives and freedom of thousands of Albanians, persecuted thousands of families, imprisoned, exiled and killed political opponents and citizens who thought differently.

Honoring the fallen and remembering the National Liberation War cannot be linked nor used as an excuse to rehabilitate the infamous dictator. They are two completely different things.

Public institutions must clearly distance themselves from the case and from any glorification of the dictatorship and its symbolism. Albania cannot move forward by relativizing the crimes of the past or turning the dictator into a figure to be applauded.
