Among the many viruses, ear infections have been frequent this summer, both in children and adults.

Ear disease specialists say they have had about 20 emergency room visits a day, mostly in cases involving people who had frequented swimming pools, but also the sea or rivers.

"External ear infections, which are very painful. They are not serious, because they are not life-threatening, but they are painful and we have had many cases ," said the head of the ENT Service at QSUT, Prof. Birkena Qirjazi.

Immersion in water, whether salt or fresh, has often been a cause of infections due to contaminated water. But ear infections in young children have been common, where the cause is not always water and which, if left untreated, risk hearing loss.

Doctors advise special care, especially for people who suffer from persistent ear infections. They should use ear protectors or earplugs that prevent water from entering the ear. Top Channel
