Former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has appeared in new photographs from his stay in a prison in the United States, several months after his arrest in Caracas.

The images were published on Maduro's official X account and show him wearing a prison uniform, while in the photo he appears smiling.

According to the message accompanying the photos, they were taken on June 25 and were sent as a message to the family and the people who continue to support him.

"I send these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, to my sons and daughters, and to all the noble people who love us," the post published on his behalf reads.

Maduro also says that the support of his family and supporters gives him strength during his isolation. In the message, he thanks them for "every word, every gesture and every blessing."

The former Venezuelan president is in the US, where he faces a trial on charges related to narcoterrorism, cocaine importation and possession of weapons of war.

At the end of the message, Maduro mentions his wife, Cilia Flores, while expressing his belief that Venezuela "will be reborn."
