Political tensions between Croatia and Serbia have escalated significantly following statements by senior Croatian officials about the rapid strengthening of Serbia's military capabilities.

Zagreb is insisting that its Western partners be informed and exert political pressure on Belgrade.

The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandrokovic, and the Minister of Defense, Ivan Anushic, have openly expressed concern about Serbia's military modernization and have requested that this issue be conveyed to Croatia's allies.

Speaking to Croatian ambassadors, consuls and military attaches at the annual conference in Zagreb, Jandrokovic said that Serbia is not only investing in defense capabilities.

 "Serbia is arming itself not only with defensive weapons, but also with offensive, attacking weapons. And we must tell our Western allies this," he declared.
