After protests and tensions, Vučić announces early elections

After months of clashes, protests and debates, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that the country will go to early elections.

Speaking to Serbian public television RTS, Vučić said that the elections will be held on October 18 or 25, but the final date is expected to be set later.

"The parliamentary elections in Serbia will take place, as things stand, either on October 18 or 25. We will know this in a few days," the Serbian president declared.

Vučić stated that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its allies will compete in the elections on one list, while other political forces are expected to be included on the other list.

Speaking about the result he expects from the elections, Vučić said that the political force he supports will aim to win the majority of seats in parliament.

"We will fight to win the majority of votes. We know that we will not have a majority if we do not get 126 seats ," he said.
