Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to hold a bilateral meeting on September 1 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where they will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

The meeting comes at a sensitive period for international relations, with the war in Ukraine and recent developments in the Black Sea remaining among the main security issues in the region.

According to Vladimir Putin's foreign policy advisor, Yury Ushakov, the situation in the Black Sea and the war in Ukraine are expected to be an important part of the discussions between the two leaders.

"There are many issues to discuss," Ushakov declared, underlining that among them will be the situation in the Black Sea and the Ukrainian issue.

The Erdogan-Putin meeting is also expected to discuss strengthening economic relations between Turkey and Russia. In particular, the parties may explore opportunities for increasing trade exchanges and expanding economic cooperation.

The meeting in Bishkek is expected to attract particular attention due to the role Turkey has played during the war in Ukraine, while simultaneously maintaining channels of communication with Moscow and Kiev.
