Gasoline exceeds 2 euros, another increase is announced in September in Greece

Fuel prices in Greece have already exceeded the level of 2 euros per liter, while signals from the market warn of another increase in the coming days.

According to the latest data, a liter of unleaded gasoline is sold on average in the country for 2.01 euros, while the average price of diesel has reached 2.02 euros.

However, this may not be the final figure. Representatives of the fuel sector indicate that over the past week, prices from refineries have increased by about 11-12 cents for diesel and 6-7 cents for gasoline. Part of this increase has not yet been reflected in consumers and is expected to appear at the pumps in the coming days.

The main concern is related to September 1, when the current government support measures for fuel end. If the subsidies are not extended, the Federation of Fuel Sellers warns that gasoline could reach up to 2.20 euros per liter, while diesel could reach 2.25 euros.

The fuel price hike is expected to further strain Greek household budgets at a time when the cost of living remains high. Inflation in the country reached 3.4% in July, while rising energy and utility costs continue to put pressure on consumers.

The effect is not limited to drivers. An increase in the price of oil can increase transportation costs and subsequently affect the prices of food and other products.

The Greek government is considering extending the fuel subsidy beyond the end of August. Meanwhile, attention is focused on the Thessaloniki International Fair, where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to present a new package of measures for families, pensioners, the middle class and small businesses in early September.
