Urban transport returns to normal, government promises fuel subsidy

Urban transport service is expected to return to normal starting today, following an agreement reached between transport operators and government representatives.

The Urban and Interurban Transport Association held a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure, Enea Karakaçi, and the Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, where the focus was on the situation created in the sector and the costs of public transport.

According to representatives of the association, during the meeting it was agreed to subsidize public transportation with 50 lek for each liter of fuel.

However, the period for which the financial support will apply has not yet been determined. Discussions are ongoing as to whether the subsidy will cover the months of June, July and August, or the period of July, August and September.

Meanwhile, following recent developments and the agreement reached, operators have decided to return urban bus service to normal.
