Tragedy with two victims in Vau i Dejës, QKUM: The ambulance in the area was defective

The National Medical Emergency Center has reacted to the tragedy in Vau i Dejës, where two people lost their lives after being electrocuted.

QKUM explains that these were two separate cases, occurring at different times, while in the first case the local ambulance was out of service due to a technical defect.

According to the official announcement, the first call for help was registered at 18:03. A local nurse arrived at the scene and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but was unable to restore spontaneous circulation.

A few minutes later, another person was electrocuted. It was an electrician who had gone to the scene to intervene in the electrical problem. The call for help in his case was registered at 18:53.

An ambulance was dispatched from Shkodra for this case as well, arriving at 7:54 p.m. According to QKUM, the electrician was found without signs of life and the case was declared a "Code Black" at the scene.

In its response, the National Medical Emergency Center emphasizes that electric shock is a life-threatening emergency and in severe cases can cause cardiac arrest and immediate death.

In connection with the tragic event of August 29, 2026 in Vau e Dejës, the National Center for Medical Emergency (QKUM), in the interest of transparency and accurate information to the public, clarifies the dynamics of the intervention of the medical emergency service. In this event, two separate cases were recorded, both as a result of electric shock, occurring at different times. The first case was reported as an emergency for electric shock. A local nurse was at the scene, who immediately started cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, without being able to restore spontaneous circulation.

According to the data recorded in the emergency system, the call was received at 18:03. At that moment, the Vau i Dejës ambulance was out of service due to a technical defect. For this reason, an ambulance from Shkodra Hospital was dispatched to the scene, which arrived at 19:44. Resuscitation maneuvers continued during the transport to Shkodra Hospital. Despite the efforts of the health personnel, spontaneous circulation could not be restored and the patient died.

The second case involved an electrician who, a few minutes later, had gone to the scene to intervene in the electrical problem. During the intervention, he was also electrocuted and died. For this case, the request for medical assistance was registered at 18:53. In the initial assessment, the person was found to be without signs of life. At this moment, the second ambulance from Shkodra was dispatched to the scene and arrived at 19:54. The case was determined and referred to as Code Black at the scene.

Electric shock constitutes a medical emergency with a very high risk to life and, in severe cases, can cause cardiac arrest and immediate death. Above any institutional explanation, this remains first and foremost a tragic event, which led to the loss of two human lives.

The National Center for Medical Emergency expresses its deep regret for this loss and conveys its most sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the two victims.
