Fire in Mat gets out of control, several families evacuated

The fire in the Ulëz Administrative Unit, in the Mat Municipality, has gotten out of control, while the flames have continued to spread for four days over a significant forest area.

According to reports, the situation is critical in the areas of Lundra, Trodhena and Madheshi, where the fire has engulfed hundreds of hectares of pine trees, oaks and other vegetation.

Last night, several families were evacuated from Madheshi due to the advancing flames. The fire has also endangered homes and livestock barns.

Intervention from the ground has been significantly hampered due to the rugged terrain, while the thick smoke and intensity of the flames make it difficult for forces to approach active hotspots.

Firefighting efforts continue today, as the flames advance rapidly.
