About 120 residents of Fushë-Arrëz are poisoned

Around 120 residents of Fushë-Arrëz are suspected of being affected by poisoning as a result of contaminated drinking water. Over the past four days, they have presented to the city's Health Center, displaying symptoms similar to poisoning.

The alarm about the water quality was raised by the residents themselves, who reported the situation to News24 a day earlier. According to them, the water supplying the apartments had a strong odor, while repeated complaints had not led to intervention by the responsible institutions.

Following the complaints, Public Health and Hygiene structures have taken samples from the drinking water supplied to the residents, which are expected to undergo laboratory tests. So far, the results of the tests have not yet been made public and there is no official confirmation on the cause of the symptoms.

The deputy mayor of Fushë-Arrëz Municipality, Mikel Qafa, has also reacted to the situation. He stated that the responsibility for water supply lies with the Shkodra Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company.

Qafa also linked the situation to the recent debates on territorial changes, arguing that the transfer of services away from local government is creating problems for citizens. In this context, he also mentioned the proposal for the Fushë-Arrëz Municipality to merge with the Puka Municipality.

Meanwhile, while waiting for an institutional solution, residents have found a temporary alternative to their water supply. For days, they have been forced to collect water from the well to use for their daily needs.
