Opinion / When betrayal requires dialogue!

Opinion / When betrayal requires dialogue!

Armand Maho

For the 13th day in a row, Rama has brought out those stone benches and chairs, inviting protesters to dialogue. Just as many times, they have been overturned, burned, or rejected by the students, showing him that the only way out for students, teachers, or doctors to calm down is for him to resign. The logical reasoning is that Rama has lost all legitimacy to enter into negotiations with the people, the biggest nightmare of every leader.

Rama knows this and yet continues to make imaginary invitations. The best part is that these invitations come the morning after a night when he beat the protesters as hard as he could, threatened them with fines, reinstated dictatorship, etc.

With this next deception, he thinks he will prolong the life of his degraded and scandal-ridden government like no other, made ridiculous to the point of pain by the level of the deputies he has selected, and hated to the point of disgust by the beating of his chest for achievements that do not exist, for the filthiness with taxes, or even servility towards international actors, to whom Rama, in exchange for support, gives pieces of Albania from time to time, treating the country as a personal fiefdom. To put it more clearly, this government only lacks mass murders, as it has done to the country everything that a dictatorial government or junta similar to those in Africa or Latin America would do to it. It has stolen from the people, driven them out, left them without services, tired them, disgusted them...

Rama, it seems, has excessive confidence in his persuasive abilities. But there are a couple of things that are not working.

First, this protest has not had a leader or an organizational group from the beginning. So, the invitation to dialogue seems to be nothing more than an attempt to convince the protesters to produce a leader, so that the government media can then hit him, while the government itself can buy him. This is an old method of Rama, proven in other protests such as that of Klodian Rasha or in the student revolt, theater, etc.

Second, everyone has understood that with this action Edi Rama seeks to emerge as the problem solver, or as part of its solution. He knows very well that such an action would not only buy him time, but would also appear as a man with whom one can come to an agreement, and that not everything that is said in his address is true. So, he is not looking for negotiators; he is looking for some opponents to turn into pawns and use them to stifle a movement that has become an anxiety for him. He has cultivated the instinct of self-defense since early on, and he knows that the longer this story lasts, the more bitter the end will be. The last resort of a peaceful protest is a stone; after that, God protect us…

Rama must understand that there are protesters who see him, but also those around him, as a virus that must be fought. There is no need for anyone to incite them, nor is there any need for anyone to cultivate their hatred. Because they see that with the sweat of their fathers they earn Gys or Lindas of all kinds. They know that they are sacrificing in vain to get an education, because the prime minister himself, due to his inferiority complex about education, has taken and made every idiot from the cities or the suburbs an MP and minister, to the extent that it makes you feel dirty from yourself that you have to keep this kind of people hanging around with a salary.

Well, they know very well that sitting in dialogue with Rama is the same as stabbing this country in the back. Edi Rama can buy, but he can't convince anyone of the injustices he has done. The first time, in 2018, students accused him of corruption and he went on TV and shouted: "I am not corrupt". Today they also accuse him of betraying the interests of Albania, and let him go out and shout the opposite as much as he wants. No one listens to him anymore! He will get the same answer as all those who betray!
