Democratic Party MP, Ivi Kaso, has raised serious accusations against the State Police for the treatment of protesters during the student protests in Tirana.

Invited to the show "Prime News24", Kaso said that violence was not only practiced during detentions, but also within the premises where citizens were escorted.

According to the Democratic MP, the police used disproportionate force, contrary to their obligation to guarantee the development of the gatherings and to intervene in accordance with the law.

"Shocking cases have been identified for public opinion. The police have been and remain completely outside their mission to guarantee gatherings and, even if there are sporadic cases of violence, they must respond with the proportional means provided by the law, by police officers trained for that job ," Kaso declared.

Kaso announced that the Democratic Party has set up a working group to collect and document cases of detentions and allegations of ill-treatment. According to him, the group has handled over 500 cases, while the total number of people detained during the protests was around 1,000.

" There were about 1,000 detainees. Some were released from the beginning, others in court. The vast majority have left detention ," said the MP, adding that most of the people treated by the working group have reported physical abuse during escorting or staying at the police station.

Kaso's most serious accusation relates to the claim that a facility within the Ministry of Education was used to assault protesters before they were taken to the police station.

" Even in a facility in the Ministry of Education, a room was turned into a Gestapo treatment room, where detainees who were caught on Durrës Street were put. They were raped there and taken to the police station ," Kaso declared.

The Democratic MP demanded that the allegations of violence and mistreatment be documented and investigated by the responsible institutions.
