Clocks go back an hour, we switch to winter time on Sunday

This Sunday, October 25, Albania switches to winter time. At 03:00, the clocks will turn back one hour, to 02:00, giving us the opportunity to sleep an hour more. But, although the change seems small, the body may need a few days to adapt to the new schedule.

The reason is related to the biological clock, the internal mechanism that helps the body regulate the sleep-wake cycle, as well as the rhythm of energy throughout the day. When the time changes, this rhythm can be temporarily disrupted, causing fatigue, difficulty waking up, or irritability, especially in people who are more sensitive to sleep changes.

Although the clocks' turn promises an extra hour of rest, it doesn't necessarily mean we'll feel more rested. If we stay up longer than usual on Saturday night, watching TV, using our phones, or going out with friends, we can easily miss out on the benefit of that extra hour.

To ease the adjustment, it is advisable not to change your sleep schedule significantly. On Saturday night, try to go to bed at your usual time and avoid postponing sleep just because you will wake up at the new time the next day.

For people who have a harder time adjusting, another way is to gradually shift your bedtime by 15–20 minutes. Maintaining a consistent sleep routine and exposure to natural light in the morning can also help the body adjust.
