Vučić resigns as president of Serbia tonight: I tried to do my best

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is expected to submit his resignation from the post of president tonight, a move that paves the way for him to participate in the early parliamentary elections on October 25 and then aim for the post of prime minister.

The Serbian presidency has announced that Vučić will address the public tonight at 8:00 PM, where he will officially submit his resignation and explain the reasons for the decision.

In a post published this Sunday on social media, Vučić described the office as president of Serbia as the greatest honor of his political life.

"I tried to do my best every day, to justify the trust placed in me, and to serve my country with loyalty and honesty. Long live Serbia," he wrote.

Asked what he would like to be remembered for during his years in the Presidency, Vučić said he hopes to be remembered for his dedication and work.

" You will remember these years and these days as the time of the greatest progress and greatest successes of Serbia," he said.

The decision comes after months of protests led mainly by students, which began after the collapse of the roof of the Novi Sad train station in November 2024, where 16 people lost their lives.
