The crisis deepens, banks close branches in Tirana

Second-tier banks have decided to close branches within the small ring road of Tirana for security reasons. Kapitali has learned that all banks have ordered their staff to close branches and leave work for home, suspending all customer transactions.

This extreme decision came as a result of the escalation of protests in central Tirana, leaving thousands of citizens and businesses without service in the country's busiest commercial area.

Sources from the banking sector indicate that this step was taken to guarantee the safety of personnel and to protect the physical infrastructure of banks from the risk of acts of violence.

This forced isolation of the capital's financial center clearly demonstrates how the lack of order and the failure of law enforcement structures to manage the situation have begun to have a direct cost on the national economy.

This blockage of banking activity exposes a much more premature and deeper problem: the government's inability to guarantee public safety and stability in key points of the country.

When financial institutions are forced to close their shutters in broad daylight for fear of violence and lack of control over the territory, the signal sent to the market and foreign investors is that of a state in crisis and unable to maintain basic order.

Economic experts warn that such events do not simply result in daily losses in transactions or a blockage of the turnover of small and medium-sized businesses operating in the center. The impact is long-term; public uncertainty fueled by the sluggishness of state structures severely damages the business climate, reduces consumer confidence and increases companies' operating costs.

In an environment where the state cannot guarantee the inviolability of property and the normal functioning of work, capital and investments are at risk of leaving, directly affecting the country's economic growth and stability./ kapitali.al
