Protests in Tirana, public transport suspended

Public transport in Tirana has been temporarily suspended, after protesters blocked main roads and axes, paralyzing movement in several areas of the capital.

The President of the National Association of Urban Transport, Kostandin Foni, announces that the damage caused so far to the transport fleet is estimated at around 2 million lek.

According to him, the situation created and the blockage of road axes have made it impossible for the normal continuation of service, while the suspension has also been imposed to protect the buses from further damage.

"The service will remain suspended until the situation stabilizes and conditions for safe traffic are created."

"The suspension of public transport is expected to affect citizens who use buses every day to travel to work, schools and other services in the capital. The return of service will depend on the normalization of the situation on the streets of Tirana," Mr. Foni asserts.
