While Tirana and almost all of Albania has been engulfed by student and youth protests, Prime Minister Edi Rama has no intention of leaving office.

In a statement to the international news agency Reuters, the head of government ruled out the possibility of resignation, despite the protests that have entered their third consecutive day.

In written responses to Reuters, Rama stated that he will not allow violence to jeopardize Albania's goal of membership in the European Union.

The statement comes at a time when students and young people have taken to the streets to protest, while clashes with the Police and the use of tear gas have escalated the situation in the capital.

Despite tensions and calls for change, Rama has made it clear that he will not resign.
