The death of three Albanians in Athens, this is the main scenario that Greek

The investigation into the deadly explosion in Plaka, Athens, which killed six people, has focused on the second floor of the building and the natural gas installation. Experts are trying to determine the exact point where the leak is suspected to have started, leading to the tragic explosion and fire.

According to Greek media, following the completion of the search and rescue operation in the ruins of the building on Lysikratous Street, investigations are now focused on uncovering the causes of the explosion.

A team of about 10 specialized officers from the Arson Crimes Division is conducting an examination of the scene, while documenting and collecting evidence that may help determine the origin of the explosion.

The main focus is on the apartment on the second floor, where an elderly couple lived. According to preliminary data, this is where the most powerful explosion is suspected to have occurred. This apartment was also the only one in the three-story building that, according to information so far, had an active autonomous supply of natural gas.

Experts are analyzing pipes and parts of the gas installation to determine whether a leak in the internal network caused the explosion. This remains the main scenario for investigators, but there is still no official conclusion.

Meanwhile, the possibility of an explosion caused by a propane cylinder is being assessed as less likely, as no cylinder or evidence has been found to support this hypothesis so far. Also, no gas leaks have been detected from neighboring buildings towards the facility where the tragedy occurred.

Another important element for the investigation are the results of forensic examinations and toxicological analyses of the victims. According to fire expert Michael E. Avgouleas, these results, combined with technical evidence and the identification of the leak point, are expected to help determine the exact circumstances that led to the explosion and fire.

In addition to the direct causes of the event, the tragedy has also brought to attention safety issues in the use of natural gas, especially in apartments rented for short periods.
