Kurti's ultimatum: Without a president today, Kosovo goes to new elections

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has warned that the country could go to new elections if the Assembly fails to elect a president by today.

Kurti described the election of the head of state as the most urgent issue for Kosovo's institutions, emphasizing that the failure of the process would lead to the dissolution of the Assembly and the launch of a new electoral process.

"Without a president today, Kosovo is in elections and without institutions ," Kurti declared.

The head of government also opposed the legal changes for the Special Court being decided before the presidential election. According to him, the issue of former KLA leaders facing trials in The Hague requires a longer commitment and a joint institutional approach.

Kurti argued that the adoption of a draft law would not produce immediate results in this regard, while institutions must be prepared for a process that, according to him, will require time and commitment.

"The issue there will take time, commitment, and I believe a lot of nerves, and we will not do any miracles overnight just because we vote on a draft law. We must all be prepared," he said.
