Trump considers firing ambassador who met Rama, $100,000 allegations shock

US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering the possibility of dismissing US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, following a series of reports of inappropriate behavior and possible violations of rules while performing diplomatic duties.

The news was reported by the American agency Associated Press (AP), which quotes a senior American official, according to whom Trump and Rubio are "extremely angry" about the information published about the ambassador. According to the same source, the decision on further steps could be taken this week.

At the center of the controversy are several reports by The Wall Street Journal and other American media outlets. One of the most recent allegations involves a Republican donor, Eric Deters, who has accused Guilfoyle of asking him to pay a $100,000 bill on her American Express card in exchange for access to senior Trump administration officials.

According to reports, the payment was not made. On the other hand, Guilfoyle's lawyer has disputed the allegations and questioned the authenticity of the published messages, arguing that the requested money was related to previous travel and public engagements.

The allegations are not limited to the financial issue. Media reports also include other allegations about the ambassador's behavior and the exercise of her function in Athens. According to the AP, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is particularly unhappy with the developments, after visiting Greece last week and Guilfoyle accompanied him during his public activities.

Guilfoyle was received by Rama at the Prime Minister's Office

The name of the American ambassador has also appeared in political developments in Albania. On March 11, 2026, Kimberly Guilfoyle met with Prime Minister Edi Rama at the Prime Minister's Office in Tirana. The visit was not announced in advance and footage of the meeting was published in the Albanian media.

At the time, it was reported that the discussions between them related to energy, regional cooperation, and American strategic interests in the Balkans, although full official details of the conversation were not released.

On April 28, Guilfoyle returned to Tirana for another meeting with Rama, in the context of the signing of a 20-year agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. The agreement, signed between Albania, Venture Global and Aktor LNG USA, was presented as a commitment worth $6 billion. The ambassador stated at the time that the cooperation aimed to strengthen energy and national security in the region.

Guilfoyle's meetings with Rama have not been publicly linked to the allegations recently reported in the United States. Meanwhile, her future as head of the US diplomatic mission in Athens remains in question as the Trump administration considers whether to take action against her.
