Trump vs. Zelensky: Ukraine needs a new president who can make deals with Russia

US President Donald Trump has toughened his stance towards his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and stated that Ukraine should have a new president who is willing to reach an agreement to end the war with Russia.

In a recent statement, Trump criticized the Ukrainian leadership for continuing attacks on Russian oil refineries. "I suggest they find a new leader who can make a deal. He had many opportunities to make a deal, but he didn't make any ," the US president declared.

His comments come after a deal between Washington and Moscow on oil supplies, which has drawn strong reactions from Kiev. Trump has argued that increasing fuel supplies will help lower prices in US and international markets.

According to reports, the US administration had asked Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries. For his part, Zelensky had proposed a reciprocal agreement, according to which Kiev would stop attacks on Russian energy facilities if Moscow stopped attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The proposal was not accepted by the Russian side, while Washington continued with the agreement on fuel supplies.

The Ukrainian president has sharply criticized this agreement, warning that revenues from the sale of oil products will strengthen Russia and help finance the war.

"Gifts to Putin will not bring peace or any benefit to the civilized world ," Zelensky declared, arguing that easing restrictions on Russian oil exports without concrete steps to reduce tensions risks prolonging the conflict.

Disagreements over attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and the new fuel supply agreement have deepened differences between the two sides over the strategy for ending the conflict.
