The scandals that Rama produced even on vacation

As Albania faced one of the most problematic fire seasons in recent years and anti-government protests continued in the streets of Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama did not change his plans from the usual summer routine.

Vacations in the South, boat trips, dinners with famous international figures, social networks and... propaganda. 

On the other hand, on the ground, the country was facing citizen protests, fires, while episode after episode, events were added that highlighted the way the state and institutions functioned.

In a few weeks, Rama's summer produced a series of episodes that have fueled the political debate: fires that covered large areas of the country and even approached Surrel, the lack of sufficient capacity for air intervention, the fire in Krujë, the reported clash in Vuno between journalist Arjan Konomi and members of the prime minister's escort, while on social networks the prime minister continued to promote the image of a touristic and successful Albania.

In early August, as Albania entered a hot summer not only in terms of temperatures but also in terms of political developments, Edi Rama chose the South to continue his vacation.

At that time, the citizen protest against the government had entered its 66th day. For almost two months, citizens gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office demanding the resignation of Edi Rama. 

While protesters continued to stand in the streets and convey their messages against the prime minister, Rama appeared in another reality.

Images published on social media showed him on a boat in the waters of Dhërmi, wearing a hat and sunglasses.

The protest, which had been going on for weeks and had become a daily presence in front of the Prime Minister's Office, did not interrupt the Prime Minister's summer routine. On the contrary, the footage from Dhërmi brought another clashing moment between what was happening on the streets and the image the Prime Minister was projecting from his vacation.

The flames approached Surrel, but Rama chose propaganda

But Rama's summer would take on another dimension just a few days later.

While he continued to appear resting in the South, Albania would face a strong wave of fires, with dozens of fires in different regions and hundreds of forces engaged in the field.

And on one of the most difficult nights, the flames would even approach Surrel , the area where the prime minister's residence is located.

Strong winds and difficult terrain complicated the intervention of emergency services on the ground, while the fire was also seen from various areas of the capital.

Firefighters, the Armed Forces, emergency structures and aerial vehicles were deployed to contain the flames.

Në një prej tyre ai shkruante:

“Mirëmëngjes dhe me energjinë nga Bjeshkët e Dobërdolit, ju uroj një ditë të mbarë.”

Në një tjetër postim, vëmendja ishte te sezoni turistik dhe masat për sigurinë e turistëve.

Pra, ndërsa zjarri kishte prekur rrethinat e kryeqytetit dhe i ishte afruar zonës ku jeton kryeministri, komunikimi publik i Ramës vijonte të ishte ai i një Shqipërie që shfaqet si destinacion turistik dhe vend i sigurt për pushime.

Një tjetër episod që nxori në pah kontrastin mes realitetit në terren dhe komunikimit të kryeministrit ishte situata në Krujë.

Për ditë me radhë, zona e Abazajt u përball me zjarre që rrezikonin edhe banesat.

Në terren punonin forcat zjarrfikëse dhe strukturat e emergjencave, ndërsa përballja me flakët nxori sërish në pah nevojën për mjete të specializuara dhe ndërhyrje nga ajri.

Por në komunikimin e tij publik, Rama zgjodhi një tjetër pamje të Krujës.

Ai publikoi një video nga Muzeu “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu”, duke e shoqëruar me mesazhin:

“Mirëmëngjes dhe me këtë atmosferë turistësh në Muzeun ‘Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu’ në Krujë, ju uroj një ditë të mbarë.”

Një paradoks që ndërsa një pjesë e qytetit luftonte me flakët, në rrjetet sociale të kryeministrit shfaqej Kruja turistike.

Nga skafi te darka me Alex Soros

Në të njëjtën periudhë, në media qarkulloi edhe një fotografi e Edi Ramës në shoqërinë e Alex Soros.

Imazhi u komentua gjerësisht për shkak të figurës së djalit të miliarderit George Soros dhe rolit që familja Soros ka pasur prej vitesh në debatet politike amerikane.

Ky takim merr një tjetër dimension për shkak të marrëdhënieve politike të Ramës me rrethin e presidentit amerikan Donald Trump dhe përplasjes së fortë që presidenti amerikan ka pasur prej vitesh me rrjetin e George Soros.

Vetë Rama ka folur më herët për protestat në Shqipëri, duke pretenduar se pas tyre qëndrojnë edhe faktorë që ai i ka cilësuar si “armiq të Trump”, duke iu referuar në mënyrë indirekte rrjetit të Soros.

Në këtë kontekst, fotografia e re që tregon takimin me Alex Soros ka nxitur pikëpyetje dhe reagime në rrjet, veçanërisht për shkak të kontrastit mes afrimit të Ramës me rrethin e Trump dhe kontakteve të tij me familjen Soros.

Përplasja me gazetarin në Vuno 

Por pushimet e kryeministrit nuk kaluan pa një tjetër episod të debatueshëm.

Në Vuno, gazetari dhe publicisti Arjan Konomi u përfshi në një incident me pjesëtarë të eskortës së Edi Ramës dhe më pas u shoqërua në Komisariatin e Himarës.

Sipas versionit të bërë publik nga Konomi, gjithçka nisi për shkak të parkimit të automjeteve të eskortës së kryeministrit.

Ai pretendon se kishte parë automjetet e eskortës të parkuara në një zonë ku ndalohet parkimi, ndërsa vetëm pak orë më herët, sipas tij, policia kishte gjobitur automjetet e banorëve të Vunoit.

Konomi said he started filming with his phone and asked the officers why the prime minister's escort wasn't also fined.

According to his account, Rama called him to talk, but the situation became tense after the intervention of the Prime Minister's wife, Linda Rama.

Konomi also claims that members of the escort took his phone and deleted the videos he had recorded, before he was escorted to the police station.

 Thus, in a country where the government seeks to sell the image of a touristic, modern, and European Albania, the contradiction with the reality of this summer was inevitable.
