After Vučić's resignation, Ana Brnabić is appointed President of Serbia

Former Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabić, has officially assumed the office of Acting President of the Republic of Serbia, following the resignation of Aleksandar Vučić.

The handover ceremony took place this morning at the Presidential Palace, where Vučić handed over the seal and state documents to Brnabić, temporarily transferring the functions of head of state to her.

Vučić's second presidential term would normally end in May 2027. However, he resigned on Sunday evening, as part of his decision to run in the October 25 parliamentary elections.

Presidential elections within 90 days

According to the Serbian Constitution, after the resignation of the president, elections for the new head of state must be held within 90 days.

Shortly before leaving office, Vučić stated that the first round of presidential elections is expected to take place at the end of December.

Brnabić, after taking office, considered it a great honor to succeed Vučić in this position.

"I believe that we have never had such a president before and that Serbia will never again have a president who demonstrates such selflessness and puts everything on the back burner for the sake of the country. It is an honor for me to take over this task from such a person," she declared.
