Sixty days to silence the Opposition!

Sixty days to silence the Opposition!

By Agron Gjekmarkaj
The 60-day exclusion from the work of the Assembly of Gazment Bardhi, the Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group, and MP Klevis Balliu, by political order of Edi Rama and under the guise of the Ethics Commission, is a serious act of arbitrariness and a direct blow to parliamentary democracy. This punishment proves how high the curve of fear of the truth is!
After Thursday's session, where the territorial reform that erased 15 municipalities from the map was approved, a step further towards depopulation and administrative anarchy with electoral purposes only, the majority chose to punish the voices that most oppose it, instead of confronting their arguments.
The exclusion of Gazment Bardhi, one of the most powerful voices of the opposition, is no coincidence. It is the government's fear of the word that denounces the countless scandals of this government, by name and surname, in detail, with shocking facts. Likewise, the exclusion of Klevis Balliu.
When the government cannot stand the opposition's speech, it tries to shut its mouth with orders and exclusions. They do it openly, they make it so thick and then talk about European integration. This is the logic of "captain Babe"! Provocation to society.
The Assembly is not the property of Edi Rama, nor is Albania with its society in the midst of dilemmas, nor is the opposition a facade, a decoration, a cloak that the majority removes whenever its peace is disturbed. The
60-day sentence is not simply a disciplinary measure. It is a robbery of the term of office, a violation of the representation of citizens and a dangerous attempt to extinguish oppositionism within the institution that should be the heart of democracy.
What should have been a temple day after day has been transformed into a notarial robe for laws and pseudo-reforms ad personam, to clothe what is a cullak, the thief that flourishes on institutional ruins.
A government that is afraid of the word, afraid of the truth. A majority that punishes the opposition to shut up, proves its weakness and contempt for pluralism.
Democracy is not defended by excluding opponents, but by confronting them. In this confrontation, they only raise the card and kill the word.
No ethics commission can and should not give legitimacy to political arbitrariness. We live in a political decadence, in a power decay that is polluting every tissue of Albanian life!
