Berisha condemns police violence at protest: Albania's

Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha reacted on Tuesday evening after the student protest held in front of the Ministry of Education, which escalated into severe police violence.

Berisha condemned the police's behavior, the violence inflicted on protesters and journalists, stating that with his recent acts, "Edvin Kristaq Koleka surpassed in the savage and animalistic violence he exerted against students in peaceful protest, the violence of dictator Ramiz Alia in December '90 against the liberation students."

Berisha asked citizens to support the students in this protest.

Berisha: Today and last night were the days of the regime's most brutal, animalistic violence against student youth since December '90 until today. Today, the 'Godfather' of Albania, Edvin Kristaq Koleka, surpassed in the brutal and animalistic violence he exercised against students in peaceful protest, the violence of dictator Ramiz Alia in December '90 against the liberation students. In a criminal act and without any motive, students, elderly citizens, journalists who were doing their duty were attacked in the most barbaric way. Their limbs were broken, they bled, their heads were cut, they were hit and they received wounds in the chest and all over their bodies, in dozens and dozens of cases. 

Eyewitnesses have sent videos that prove the barbarity against the citizen by breaking his limbs, at a time when he was absolutely not committing any act against anyone, and they took him unconscious, crushed him in their car. Others, residents, have had gas bombs thrown on their balconies. Other journalists have had their heads cut off. The situation tonight was one of unprecedented terror. The student protest called by the students and the university union received widespread popular support from the citizens. And Edi Rama, terrified, chose savage violence against the students. He expressed his boundless hatred towards them.

Students need the protection of citizens, for support. So let's unite tomorrow, students, parents, youth, citizens, as invincible as the students who truly challenged and defended their demands stood today.
