EU tightens measures against Russia, 1,600 new sanctions against military

The European Union has approved nearly 1,600 new sanctions against Russia, with a particular focus on Moscow's military-industrial complex.

The news was announced on Monday by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas during the Warsaw Security Forum. According to her, more than half of the new measures are related to the ballistic missile production chain.

"More than half are related to the ballistic missile production chain," Kallas declared during the forum.

The Foreign Ministers of the EU member states ratified on Monday the agreement on the new measures, which was previously reached last Wednesday.

The new package aims to increase pressure on sectors related to Russia's military capabilities, at a time when the EU continues its policy of sanctions against Moscow due to the war in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke at the same forum in Warsaw, focusing on Ukraine's accession process to the European Union.

Zelensky said that Ukraine is continuing to work to meet the necessary requirements for membership, expressing his belief that his country is moving closer to the EU.

"Ukraine's European future is near," declared the Ukrainian president.
