Accusations of money and favors, the White House demands the resignation of

The White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece, following a series of reports of alleged misconduct, the new White House press secretary announced Tuesday, CNN reports .
“ We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign ,” Katie Zacharia said during her first press conference.
“ She has been a tremendous asset to the team, and we wish her well ,” Zacharia added.
Guilfoyle’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
Her departure comes after reports that she solicited money in exchange for access to administration officials before her confirmation, accepted lavish gifts while serving as ambassador and included a lobbyist for a Greek construction company in official meetings.
Guilfoyle’s lawyers have denied the allegations that she solicited money and said the reports about her travels were misleading. They added that she had complied with federal requirements for accepting and declaring gifts.
Guilfoyle, who was engaged for four years to Donald Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was sworn in as ambassador in September 2025.
Eric Deters, a former Trump donor, said that Guilfoyle had asked him in a text message to wire her $100,000 to pay off an American Express card in the days before her Senate confirmation. According to Deters, she had promised him that she would be his staunch supporter in the Trump administration if he did so.
" There's no question that it was a favor-for-payment exchange ," Deters told CNN's Jake Tapper last week.
Deters said he didn't wire Guilfoyle the money because he didn't have the financial liquidity to do so at the time.
In a statement to CNN, Guilfoyle's lawyers said Deters owed her money for speaking engagements and consulting services, calling his claims untrue.
" When Ms. Guilfoyle was preparing to leave private life to serve the public, she did what any professional would do: she tried to pay off her outstanding debts. Asking a client to pay for work performed is not corruption. It's the opposite of corruption," her lawyers said.
On Monday, Trump confirmed that he was considering firing Guilfoyle.
" We're considering it, yes. We're not happy ," Trump told reporters as he left the White House.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was traveling to Greece when The Wall Street Journal first reported on Guilfoyle’s alleged scheme, in which favoritism was allegedly paid in exchange for favors. Guilfoyle attended several events with Rubio, who declined to comment on the reports at the time.
The Wall Street Journal had previously reported on Guilfoyle’s alleged efforts to promote a Greek energy company in regional energy deals.
During the visit to Athens, Rubio praised Guilfoyle as a “ strong ambassador here” and dismissed questions about the reports of her alleged wrongdoing.
“You think that just because a source told you something and you reported it, that’s the absolute truth. It’s not the absolute truth. It’s not the absolute truth to me. That’s not how we operate,” Rubio said before boarding a plane to leave Greece, as Guilfoyle listened.
The reports have raised questions and calls for an investigation by Democrats in the US Congress. Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has called for Guilfoyle to appear before the committee.
“ It needs to be determined whether Ambassador Guilfoyle solicited funds from any other source,” Meeks said.
The US State Department’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) is investigating Guilfoyle over the allegations of wrongdoing, a source familiar with the process said.

Affinity with Rama

Kimberly Guilfoyle has shown close official relations with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, in the context of important energy agreements in the Balkans.
She visited Tirana for meetings with Rama, where cordial receptions and the signing of a historic 20-year, $6 billion agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States to Albania (via the Vlora terminal) stood out.
