DP places lawyers at the disposal of protesters, Logu: We will appeal the security measures

The Democratic Party has made a team of lawyers available to provide legal protection to citizens escorted or arrested during student protests.

The news was announced by the Secretary for Legal and Electoral Affairs at the DP, Marash Logu, who stated that lawyers are on standby 24 hours a day to follow up on the protesters' cases.

Logu said that representatives of the DP's legal team were at the Tirana Court today to defend the protesters. He added that, after the reasoned decisions are made public, the party will appeal the security measures that it considers illegal and unjustified.

DECLARATION:

The Democratic Party is fully prepared to guarantee the legal protection of every citizen who faces state repression due to the exercise of their constitutional right to protest.

During the four days of student protests, hundreds of citizens were escorted and arrested by the State Police. Faced with this situation, we have not been satisfied with political statements alone. We have made a team of lawyers available, on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to defend the protesters at every stage of the legal process.

Our team represented the protesters today in the Tirana Court and, as soon as the reasoned decision is made public, will appeal the security measures that we consider illegal and unjustified, despite the fact that except for one protester, all others have been released with milder measures.

The government cannot quell the protest through fear, arrests, and police violence. The police are obligated to enforce the law, not serve as an instrument of pressure on citizens. Every case of violence and every violation of the rights of protesters must be investigated and punished according to the law.

Our message is straightforward: protest is not a crime, police violence is not law enforcement, and no one is above the Constitution.

Every student and every citizen should know that they are not alone.

The Democratic Party will pursue every violation, will use every legal means, and will not allow the right to protest to become a cause for persecution.

We are on standby. We are on the side of the citizens and will stand against any abuse of power until Edi Rama resigns!
