Student revolt/ German MEP: The culprit is Edi Rama

German MEP Anna Strolenberg has reacted to the student protests in Albania, accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of the situation created and demanding that the European Union and various countries condemn the violence seen during the rallies.

In a reaction on social media, Strolenberg says she has seen disturbing videos of the use of force by the Police against protesters, however, according to her, the main responsibility for the situation lies with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"My conclusion, however, is clear, Edi Rama is the cause of all this," the MEP says, while accusing the prime minister of treating the peaceful Flamingo protesters with arrogance.

Strolenberg also criticizes what she considers a lack of will to really fight corruption and to undertake meaningful changes in the country. “There is no will to really fight corruption and to undertake meaningful changes in the country,” she says. 
The MEP emphasizes that she wants Albania to become part of the European Union, but underlines that the integration process must be accompanied by respect for citizens’ rights.

"If Albania wants to become part of the European Union, it must have a government that respects the fundamental rights of its citizens," emphasizes Strolenberg, calling for pressure on the Albanian authorities.
